CARDIFF BAY
Over the last couple of years amazing changes have taken place in the Bay. The Cardiff Bay Barrage is now finished and the bay is constantly full of water - rather than the less visually appealing mud flats. There is a wide variety of buildings around the bay - including a Norwegian church and various modern buildings - all of them are very striking in their own way. There is a lighthouse ship permanently docked on which you can choose to have a cup of tea or a tour of the ship - naturally you can do both if you wish.
If you are walking around Cardiff Bay, I would highly
recommend going into The Norwegian Church Coffee Shop. There is a
lovely atmosphere inside and it is much more than just a coffee shop. You
can buy tea for 70p, filter coffee for 85p and delicious hot chocolate with
whipped cream for £1.05.
There
is a wide patisserie selection and I can personally recommend the apple strudel
with cream (£1.95) - I enjoyed every mouthful, from the first to the
last! A selection of what they have is as follows : - a very large
bowl of home made soup £2.50, potato cake £3.50, Norwegian open
sandwich £5.25, filled baguettes, jacket potatoes with various fillings
and a range of
salads.
They offer catering for private parties and can be contacted on 029
20454899. Above the coffee shop is a small art gallery and you can also look
down into the church, which is interesting in itself. It was
originally built for
seafarers and is made entirely of wood.
An example of the modern architecture can be seen in the picture on the left and top right of this page.
